Yesterday, we went for a day trip to Macau for the Miss Macau 2009 press con. We got to meet the 2008 Miss Macau title winners and shared with this year`s potential delegates our experiences from when we went through Miss Hong Kong. The event went smoothly and perhaps we will attend their big night in October! =)

Word of the Day: Radiance

As a society we enjoy the arts extensively through a plethora of media from radio to comics. Yesterday, news confirmed that Yoshito Usui, the creator of the manga Crayon Shin-chan has died. I just wanted to take a moment and give respect to the man behind this popular manga and his beloved character, Shin-chan. Rest in peace Yoshito Usui-sensei.

TVB held a drawing competition for young children and students this summer and over 2000 entries were received by the organization. Of the 2000 entries, dozens of selected pieces were awarded prizes. The Miss Hong Kongs were asked to be part of the awards ceremony that took place this past Saturday.

I’m not sure what the numbers of submissions are like from year to year, but 2000 entries is still quite a lot. I’m happy to see parents and schools are supporting children in their exploration of the arts. The fine arts, whether it’d be related to drawing or singing, is a wonderful way for people, particularly children, to learn about themselves and to harness creativity. Congratulations once again to all the winners. This was a very enjoyable event for me. It was nice to look into the world of our younger generation and see what they have to say through their drawings.
