中秋節 w/ the Soldiers
網誌日期:2009-10-09
Hi everyone! Did your mid-autumn festivities go well and your long weekend ended to your satisfaction? I had the pleasure to attend a goodwill event organized by Mrs. Tung to celebrate Mid-Autumn’s with the Chinese soldiers stationed on an island near Hong Kong. The soldiers stay on base for the majority of their term and therefore, being so far away from family this event which included a soccer game, lunch with guests, and stage performances is a highly anticipated day in the year.
The soccer match was roughly 3 hours between Team Solider and Team Celebrity. Team Celebrity won 2-0 with our awesome cheer leading. Go girls. lol We head for lunch in their upstairs cafeteria and it was the most interesting part of the day for me as the entire table spoke only Mandarin. I summoned up all the Mandarin comprehension and speaking skills I had that afternoon and want to thank my companions for their patience with me. One of the soldiers understood Cantonese so I would speak to him in Cantonese and he would reply in Mandarin. It’s a little silly, but it works! Language Exchange 101. I had a really good time conversing with them and getting to know what a regular day at the base is like.
The stage show itself was soon after lunch and the best thing about the show was that all the performers, the MCs, singers, dancers, us, and the audience really enjoyed themselves. It doesn’t get better when you’re performing and entertaining on stage and your audience reciprocates with enthusiasm. Thank you to Mrs. Tung for inviting us to the event. I think we got a lot out of it knowing that our participation brought happiness to others this season.

On Random VII… and Happy Birthday Hilaire
網誌日期:2009-10-05
I was asked by a few people about my previous post, Random VII. The photos are of presents family and fans gave me. I received the little vase and flowers shortly after the competition from a fan who wanted to congratulate me on the title. Though not in any particular order, it is the gesture, occassion and who the gift is from that makes receiving a gift memorable. Every now and then when I see the little things around the house I am reminded of them. And so “randomly” one day I thought they would be amused to see the gifts they gave on my blog. I wanted to say to them collectively that “I was thinking of you!”.
On a related note, this week is Hilaire’s birthday. Hilaire and I met because of Miss Hong Kong 2009 and we got to know each other and became friends during this time. It’s hard to tell from external sources, but she’s a generous and happy person. Happy Birthday hun!

Haven’t had a Random in a while. Some will get a kick out of these photos, but thanks for all your support. I just can’t seem to say those words enough.
